Three face marijuana
growing charges

WARREN - Three people secretly indicted on charges of
illegal cultivation of marijuana pleaded not guilty Thursday in Trumbull
County Common Pleas Court.
Shawn Ballard, 31, and Candace Hurd, 40, both of Hager Street in Hubbard,
and Jack L. Hurd, 64, of 601 Milton Blvd. in Newton Falls, were charged in
connection to a drug raid Sept. 21 by the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law
Enforcement Task Force. Jack Hurd's and Ballard's indictments include a
forfeiture of property specification, and each was released from the
Trumbull County Jail after posting a $25,000 bond. Candace Hurd was released
after posting a $5,000 bond.
TAG officers said they found at Jack Hurd's property outdoor and indoor
marijuana grow operations, nine firearms, large quantities of ammunition,
approximately $2,000 in cash, miscellaneous paperwork, a surveillance
system, scales, plastic bags, a large automatic dryer, additional growing
equipment, approximately 20 marijuana plants, starter plants, three
five-gallon buckets containing cut marijuana and 10 large black garbage bags
containing marijuana.
