LEAVITTSBURG - A man who is accused of setting up a
methamphetamine lab at a Park Drive home was doing it to raise money and
support his own habit, according to authorities.
Lt. Jeff Orr, head of the Trumbull Ashtabula Group drug task force, said
Joshua J. Eubank, 36, was running the lab at 164 Park Drive and has served
two prior prison sentences for making or using methamphetamine.
Eubank and Chelsey Ann Kirby, 25, were both arrested after TAG agents raided
the home Thursday and are each in the Trumbull County Jail on charges of
possession of chemicals to manufacture and trafficking in methamphetamine.
There was no active lab found when a search warrant was served at the home
but there were surveillance cameras as well as several burn pits found. Orr
said it is common for those who make methamphetamine to burn or dispose of
the waste on the property.
Packaged methamphetamine was found inside the house, along with a police
scanner, packing materials, a pill crusher and other items typically found
in a lab, Orr said.
Chemicals also were removed from a space in a garage that had a tarp to hide
what was inside. The home had no running water or electricity.
Orr said meth labs are more common in Ashtabula County than in Trumbull
County. He said he can only remember two or three labs he's run across in
Trumbull County in eight years on the task force. Eubank and Kirby are both
from Ashtabula, Orr said.
Orr said the raid took place after a month-long investigation. Agents were
able to trace the lab to the home after studying records of cold medicine
bought from local drug stores. Some cold medicines are used to make
methamphetamine.
