Officers to collect
unused medications

Law-enforcement officers from the Trumbull Ashtabula Group
Law Enforcement Task Force will collect and destroy prescription drugs
Wednesday as part of “Operation: Empty Medicine Cabinet.”
The officers will accept unused or expired drugs in original containers at
the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District facilities, 5138
Enterprise Drive, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The ASAP Coalition is sponsoring the program to limit the misuse of drugs by
children and teens who often get them from their family’s medicine cabinets.
Frequently, teens mix the drugs they find with those of their friends,
creating a prescription-medicine cocktail that can prove dangerous or fatal.
“This drug turn-in program will prevent unused or expired prescription
medication from getting into the wrong hands,” said Lt. Jeff Orr, TAG
commander. “It also has the added benefit of providing a way for unused or
old prescriptions to be disposed of safely.”
