Ohio Police Make $1.6
Million Pot Bust
6 Charged With Drug Trafficking, Possession |
UPDATED: 8:23 AM EDT July 22, 2004
CLEVELAND -- A drug bust in an Ashtabula County home is preventing over $1.6
million worth of marijuana from hitting the streets, reported NewsChannel5’s
Debora Lee.
Members of a drug task force discovered the 931 pounds of marijuana after
trailing a shipment being delivered from California.
Geauga County sheriff Dan McClelland said the drug would have been sold
throughout northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. He said the task force,
comprised of deputies from Trumbull, Ashtabula and Geauga counties, is
trying to send dope dealers a message. "We’re going to pursue you. We're
going to put you out of business. We want to drive you out of northeast
Ohio," said McClelland. The task force suspects the pot enterprise has been
operating in northeast Ohio for about 10 years. They confiscated several
thousand marijuana plants from local cornfields in 2003.
